Players Divided Over GTA Online’s New Anti-Cheat System

GTA Online players are experiencing mixed feelings regarding the newly implemented anti-cheat system on PC. Yet, some enthusiasts assert that the improvements are “night and day” compared to previous gameplay experiences.

For many years, GTA Online has been plagued by issues stemming from cheaters and hackers. Some incidents are more disruptive than others, significantly affecting players’ enjoyment and their in-game progress. Interestingly, certain cheats can be somewhat beneficial, as they may spawn cash and vehicles to assist players, although that can still result in penalties.

PC gamers have long been advocating for a comprehensive anti-cheat solution. Unfortunately, it has taken nearly a decade for Rockstar Games to address these requests.

On September 18, Rockstar Games took a significant step by introducing the anti-cheat system known as BattleEye. However, this third-party solution has impacted the game’s compatibility with Steam Deck users, leading to some players being locked out.

For those who have successfully ventured into GTA Online with the new anti-cheat measures, opinions remain divided.

One Reddit user, redgroupclan, expressed excitement about the changes, stating, “The difference is NIGHT AND DAY! For the first time in 10 years, players can come out of their fallout shelters to have genuine fun with each other.”

Another player shared their positive experience, saying, “It’s so nice, people actually interact with each other, showing cars, taking bus tours, helping with businesses.”

However, some players remain skeptical about the long-term effectiveness of the anti-cheat measures. One commented, “I don’t want to be pessimistic, but we’ll see how long it’ll last.” Another noted, “This is a momentary victory against the modders. There are big downsides though,” suggesting that Rockstar may not have fully considered all aspects.

One player recounted a negative experience, stating, “I just got harassed and crashed by a modder during a nightclub sale, so tamper your celebrations…” .

Additionally, some players pointed out that several cheat providers have already managed to circumvent the anti-cheat measures, reintroducing their in-game cheat menus. Should this prove true, it is hoped that Rockstar will quickly address these vulnerabilities.
