Players of Call of Duty Already Calling for Major Realism Change in Black Ops 6

Once again, Call of Duty players have voiced their frustrations with the cosmetics and skin bundles in the newer games, urging for significant changes to be implemented in Black Ops 6.

Over time, Call of Duty cosmetics have drastically advanced. In the past, players had to work hard to unlock the Fall camo in the original Modern Warfare 2. Those who have not played the series recently may be surprised to see the futuristic Gundam skins and Nicki Minaj operators now available in Warzone and MW3 in 2024.

Some players have been displeased by this, particularly those seeking a more authentic mil-sim gameplay, reminiscent of the older COD titles. As a result, there have been calls for a return to the simpler style of Black Ops 6, set to release on October 25.

One user on the Black Ops 6 subreddit expressed their thoughts on the evolution of COD’s identity, stating, “In the past, COD was known as the serious and tactical shooter, despite the fanbase not reflecting that. However, now it has become a spectacle with laser guns, all because the ‘it was never meant to be realistic’ crowd, who are easily distracted, can’t handle anything that isn’t bright and flashy.”

Some cosmetics, such as the Gundam Operator outfit in Modern Warfare 3, have frustrated certain sections of the playerbase.

Despite the variety of perspectives expressed in the 200+ comments on the Reddit post, there was a general consensus among many users. The most popular comment suggested that the game could do away with operators and return to using generic military characters, while still incorporating unique weapon skins.

In reply, a player mentioned that the 2017 version of Modern Warfare Remastered excelled in this aspect, while another player elaborated that Riot Games’ first-person shooter game Valorant has accomplished it even better: “There are no character-altering cosmetics, not even different color options for Agents. They have prioritized weapon cosmetics, and they have some really impressive blueprints. This ensures that you can always recognize which character you are facing.”

Clearly, Valorant is a distinct game, as being aware of which Agent your adversary is using is crucial in keeping track of the round’s development and anticipating their abilities.

In 2022, Activision Blizzard reported over $5 billion in revenue from microtransactions and downloadable content, although it is difficult to determine how much of this can be attributed to Call of Duty bundles. This significant amount of revenue shows that there is a clear demand from players for this type of content. Therefore, it is highly unlikely that Activision will discontinue these types of cosmetics in the near future.
