Despite the useful tutorial that was added in patch 9.02 for new players, the Practice Range no longer has the features that Valorant fans enjoyed using.
The release of Valorant’s open beta for consoles took place on July 26, followed by the launch of patch 9.02 on July 30. The patch notes did not mention any feature removals, but did confirm the addition of Basic Training and Range for PC players.
Fans on Reddit have expressed their disappointment with the removal of plant and defuse training, labeling it as a clear downgrade. Prior to matches, many devoted players would use The Range as a warm-up session.
In response to the Reddit post, a fellow player elaborated on the usefulness of the Practice Range features, stating: “I found the bomb defuse exercise to be particularly helpful in warming up and reminding me to check for common corners.”
A recent Reddit post only fueled the controversy by criticizing the changes as “unnecessary and unwanted.”While players could still practice shooting bots in an open area, the removal of realistic training exercises was met with disappointment.
Some players have expressed their frustration with the changes on the Valorant Wiki. A fan suggested that the plant and defuse training could potentially be made available through a separate portal in the future.
Patch 9.02 also introduced the option to participate in a full Bot Training Match, in addition to the new Basic Training. This feature resembles a real match and allows players to quickly practice planting and defusing through specific exercises.
Despite facing backlash from the Valorant community, Riot may still choose to bring back the beloved Practice Range features. However, the development team has yet to address the feedback with any specific action plans.
Despite the initial negativity surrounding patch 9.02, players were met with positive reactions to the teasers for the new agent, which were released through Abyss updates and an audio log from Sova.
