Fans of Hideo Kojima were left astounded by the unveiling of exclusive footage from Death Stranding 2, which features a hyper-realistic photo mode.
During the DS2 Panel at the Tokyo Game Show 2024, held on September 29, the head of Kojima Productions once again left his audience in disbelief by showcasing early footage of the highly anticipated game, titled Death Stranding 2: On the Beach.
The event featured the Japanese voice cast, Kojima Productions team members, and acclaimed film director Nicolas Winding Refn. During the panel, Kojima revealed the main cast of DS2 and disclosed character names such as Tarman, Tomorrow, Dollman, and Rainy.
However, it was the announcement of a hyper-realistic photo mode dubbed “Photo shoot event” that truly astonished the fans. According to Kojima, players will be equipped with a functional Polaroid camera in-game to capture images and alter character poses.

Additionally, players will have the ability to organize the Polaroid photos like a scrapbook to curate their own collection. This mode has showcased stunningly realistic graphics, with exquisite lighting and shading that gamers are calling the “best photo mode ever in a video game.”
One enthusiastic fan noted, “This game is going to change everything. Kojima always thinks 3 steps ahead.” Another stated, “Damn, it’s actually like I’m taking a photo with a bunch of people but in-game. It’s actually kind of cool if they keep this in the final product.”
Despite the buzz, Kojima did not announce a specific release date for Death Stranding 2: On The Beach during the panel. However, he assured fans that an official announcement would be made in 2025, coinciding with the game’s release.
For those curious, the original Death Stranding featured a photo mode reminiscent of typical PlayStation games, allowing users to utilize different camera angles and apply filters. The upcoming sequel elevates this experience with dynamic posing and incredible realism, which fans of Kojima hope will meet their expectations.
