Players Want Viral Baby Hippo Moo Deng to Become a Pokemon

In case you hadn’t noticed, Thailand’s adorable baby pygmy hippo – named Moo-Deng – is currently captivating the internet, with nearly every image and video of this charming creature going viral across all platforms.

This tiny hippo is receiving widespread acclaim for its cuteness, and with such popularity, a plethora of memes and fan art have emerged. It didn’t take long for fans to envision the hippo as a Pokémon, and the results are nothing short of fantastic.

Among the abundance of Moo-Deng art, the account @MooDengSOL on X shared a quick mock-up featuring Moo-Deng alongside Ash Ketchum, ready for battle with the cheeky comment, “She’s doing her BEST.” As of now, this viral post has garnered over 120,000 likes.

Pokémon fans have praised the artwork in the comments, showering even more compliments on Moo-Deng. One commenter notes, “She IS the very best, the best there ever was,” while another suggests, “She has to be a legendary in the next region.”

Moreover, other Pokémon enthusiasts have taken the artwork further by developing potential move sets for Moo-Deng.

X user and RuPaul’s Drag Race contestant @XunamiMuse quoted the artwork, stating, “If Moo Deng was a Pokémon: Ground/Water [type]. Ability: Gluttony.”

For potential moves, they recommended: “Stomping Tantrum, Slack Off, Crunch, and Muddy Water.”

Fans of Moo-Deng, Pokémon, and Drag Race united in the comments under Xunami’s post, enthusiastically supporting the concept and sharing their own ideas. One comment suggested, “Sap Sipper as a Hidden Ability would be slayyyy,” to which Xunami responded, “I literally thought about that!!!”

Another comment proposed, “Maybe Fake Tears as well?” to which Xunami replied, “Omg that was the 5th move!”

Finally, one particularly curious fan asked, “Is Moo Deng a single stage Pokémon or will it evolve into a larger Hippowdon-like Pokémon?”

It seems the consensus is clear, as Xunami answered, “I don’t want her to evolve,” with others chiming in “I feel the same way” and “She’s mythical.”

While Moo-Deng is unlikely to appear in Scarlet & Violet anytime soon, players can still catch some adorable Pocket Monsters for themselves (perhaps catching a Hippopotas and naming it Moo-Deng) with the latest events in Pokémon Go, such as Galarian Expedition, Community Day, and the weekly Spotlight Hour.
