Despite not being officially announced or confirmed by Sony, there have been reports and leaks from sources such as Insider Gaming, a well-known publisher for gaming news, that provide further evidence for the existence of the PS5 Pro. This supports their previous report from March regarding the upcoming release of the console.
According to speculation, Sony plans to implement a strategy similar to that of the PS4 Pro for their upcoming console. Instead of waiting five to seven years for the hardware to become outdated, the PS5 Pro would offer an opportunity for those who are able to afford it to upgrade to newer hardware.

PS5 Pro: Release Window Speculation
According to reports, the PS5 Pro is anticipated to launch in 2024. Despite Sony’s lack of official announcements about the next version of the PS5, recent leaks suggest that the console will be available later this year.
Tom Henderson of The Verge was the source of these leaked details, and he had accurately predicted PlayStation’s portable streaming device before it was officially announced.
In an article published by Henderson for Insider Gaming in May 2023, it was stated with “100% degree of certainty”that the development of the PlayStation 5 Pro is currently underway and its expected release date is set for Q4 2024.
This suggests that the PS5 Pro will be released four years following the initial release of the PS5. In comparison, the PS4 Pro, which was an upgraded version of the previous generation console, was launched in November 2016, only three years after the initial release of the PS4.
Despite the general expectation that the upgraded console will be released in Q4 2024, Henderson remains skeptical.
According to a trustworthy insider, multiple sources have expressed worries about the planned release timeframe. This is reportedly due to the limited amount of first-party games that will utilize its advanced technology at launch.
Nevertheless, developers are still given the opportunity to submit applications for their games to support the PS5 Pro to Platform Certifications & Operations (CertOps) until July 30, 2024.
Despite not fully confirming the 2024 release date, his most recent report outlines that all applications released after September 15th must support the PlayStation 5 Pro. This suggests that the PS5 Pro may still be on schedule for its planned Q4 2024 launch.
Speculating on the Price of the PS5 Pro
Based on current leaks and rumors, it is likely that the PS5 Pro will cost at least $100 more than the standard PS5 model, which would put it at a minimum of $600. However, there has been no official statement from Sony regarding the price of the PS5 Pro, which is not unexpected as the company has not yet confirmed the existence of the Pro version.
While it is purely conjectural, the PS5 Pro is expected to have a higher price tag than the current PS5 and its disc and digital-only counterparts. YouTuber Moore’s Law is Dead recently released a video discussing alleged leaked specifications for the PS5 Pro console. As with any of his videos, it was advised to take the information with a grain of salt, as the YouTuber has had a mix of accurate and inaccurate leaks in the past. However, the video has since been taken down from YouTube due to a copyright claim from Sony, which adds credibility to its content. Insider Gaming has confirmed that many of the leaked details about the PS5 Pro are accurate, which may explain why Sony took action to keep the finer details of the console under wraps until an official announcement.
Fortunately, we are aware, thanks to the now-deleted video, that the PS5 Pro is expected to be released with a 576 GB/s (18GT/s) system memory, representing a 28% increase compared to the initial version of the Sony console.
According to The Verge, the PS5 Pro will have a ‘High CPU Frequency Mode’ that will allow the CPU to run at 10% higher than the original PS5, reaching up to 3.85GHz. This feature is also reportedly identical to the processor found in the regular PS5, but with an added bonus of an extra 1.2GB of system memory that developers can utilize during development.

Both the original PS5 and the PS5 Slim currently have 12.5GB of system memory available for developers to use. However, according to Tom Warren, Sony is rumored to have increased this to 13.7GB for the potential PS5 Pro model.

Cerny, the mastermind behind the PlayStation 4 and director of Knack, has filed a patent suggesting that Sony is researching ways to enhance ray tracing capabilities on the PS5.
Due to the fact that this cannot be achieved through a simple update to the PS5 console and would instead require new hardware, it is expected that the PS5 Pro will prioritize graphical quality in a similar manner as the PS4 Pro.
The recently-removed Moore’s Law Is Dead video also revealed information about ‘PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution’ (PSSR). According to the YouTuber, PSSR is Sony’s proprietary upscaling technology, similar to Nvidia’s DLSS and AMD’s FSR.
According to sources interviewed by Tom Warren at The Verge, the document shared in the Moore’s Law Is Dead video suggests that PSSR will incorporate machine-learning methods to improve game resolution, starting with 4K support and eventually adding 8K support in a future SDK version. Developers are reportedly being encouraged by Sony to utilize ray-tracing technology, and games that show significant enhancements may receive a “Trinity Enhanced”label.
