Sony has revealed that the upcoming State of Play is scheduled for September 24, 2024. This event will showcase announcements and updates for PlayStation 5 and PSVR2 titles.
Following the significant announcement of the PlayStation 5 Pro earlier this month, Sony has been relatively silent on gaming news. Since the PlayStation opted out of attending Gamescom, there have been few updates since the last State of Play event in late May.
However, things are about to change with the announcement of September’s State of Play. Here’s everything you need to know about the event, including the schedule and what to anticipate.
Date, Time & Where to Watch
The next State of Play will be broadcast on September 24, 2024, at 3 PM PT / 6 PM ET / 11 PM BST. For viewers in Japan, it will be September 25 at 7 AM JST.
You can catch the State of Play live on PlayStation’s YouTube and Twitch channels, available in both English and Japanese.
What to Expect from the September 2024 State of Play
PlayStation has announced that the showcase will run for over 30 minutes, featuring “news and updates on more than 20 upcoming PS5 and PSVR2 games from studios worldwide.”
While there are no specific titles mentioned in the announcement, speculation suggests that a remaster of Horizon Zero Dawn could be showcased, especially in light of recent rumors fueled by a new ESRB rating.
Additionally, Guerilla Games is reportedly developing at least two games related to the Horizon franchise, including a multiplayer experience. While these may take longer to release, the State of Play could offer a teaser, signaling that the series is evolving and moving forward.
Death Stranding 2 is another potential highlight, especially given that the event coincides with the Tokyo Game Show, where Hideo Kojima‘s upcoming game is set to have a dedicated panel.
There’s also a strong chance that the Silent Hill 2 remake will be featured, as it was included in the May 2024 State of Play. With the game’s release slated for October 8, this presentation could provide a vital opportunity for Bloober Team and Konami to reassure fans about the value of this much-anticipated remake.
Moreover, numerous prominent PlayStation studios, such as Naughty Dog and Sucker Punch Productions, are working on unannounced projects, but they haven’t released a new title since The Last of Us Part 2 and Ghost of Tsushima, both of which debuted in 2020.
However, based on previous State of Play events, which have mainly concentrated on smaller announcements, including remasters, PC ports, and third-party titles, it is plausible that this showcase might not feature numerous major reveals from PlayStation‘s first-party studios.
