The Fallout Between a Notorious Trophy Hunter and Sony
Abdul ‘Hakoom’ Hakam, recognized as the world’s most prominent PlayStation trophy hunter, has severed ties with Sony following the controversial suspension of his longstanding gaming account, reportedly established 17 years ago.
A Record-Breaking Journey
With an unwavering commitment to trophy hunting, Hakoom has clinched a place in the Guinness Book of World Records on five occasions and currently boasts an extraordinary total of 2,306,475 trophy points on PSNProfiles. Despite retiring from trophy collecting in 2021, his impressive accolades led to a partnership with Sony.
Account Suspension Sparks Controversy
Recently, a significant rift emerged between Hakoom and Sony. On September 9, he discovered his PlayStation account was permanently banned without prior notification. The Bahraini gamer’s frustration deepened as he claimed he had not received any formal communication regarding the suspension.

Allegations and Defense
Following the ban, Hakoom was informed that the suspension stemmed from multiple violations of Sony’s terms of service. Allegations included rapid attainment of Platinum trophies in notoriously time-consuming games, as well as logging into an extensive number of accounts across various PlayStation consoles.
Hakoom refuted these claims, attributing the swift acquisition of trophies to Sony’s auto-pop feature, which allows players to achieve Platinum trophies on the PS5 version of a game if they have already earned them on the PS4 version. He further explained that the extensive number of accounts was simply a byproduct of his 17 years in gaming, during which he had created accounts for numerous now-defunct online games.
Reflections on Trophy Hunting
Despite his ban being lifted, Hakoom’s removal from Sony’s partnership program led him to articulate his grievances publicly. He expressed that the landscape of the PlayStation Store is filled with games designed for quick trophy completions, which contributed to his decision to retire from trophy hunting.
Ultimately, Hakoom characterized his experience as indicative of “corruption and oppression” within the gaming industry, shedding light on a troubling aspect of the gaming community that resonates with many avid players.
