Pochita’s Strength in Chainsaw Man Part 2 vs Part 1: Understanding the Differences

Chainsaw Man Part II has been an exhilarating journey. Tatsuki Fujimoto’s brilliance continues to illuminate the narrative as each chapter unveils unexpected twists and excitement. In the latest chapters, Pochita has faced significant harm from an evolved War Devil, Yoru. She resorted to actions she never anticipated, yielding explosive consequences.

Fans expressed their excitement for the chapter while simultaneously worrying for the Hero of Hell. He appeared to struggle against Yoru in what seemed to be a lopsided confrontation. While many believe that Pochita has weakened in Part II of the series, this is not accurate. There is likely a compelling reason for his hesitance to retaliate, and here’s a deeper analysis.

Pochita in Chainsaw Man: Not Weaker in Part II

To clarify, Pochita, also known as Chainsaw Man, is by no means weak. The events of Part I prove this point. In his partially transformed state, under Denji’s control, Pochita might not have displayed overwhelming power, yet he remained formidable. However, in his form as the Hero of Hell, his capabilities have already been illustrated.

Reflecting back to the Hell Devil encounter, Pochita swiftly dealt with it. It is uncertain whether he completely erased the entity, but he certainly obliterated the physical manifestation that emerged from the “Anti-Makima Squad.”Moreover, during his confrontation with Makima, Pochita showcased astonishing speeds, almost teleporting to different locations.

Shifting the focus slightly, Pochita remains a Devil. Without a doubt, he brings devastation in his wake. However, under scrutiny, it can be noted that he attempts to minimize death and destruction.

This is not to imply he avoids it altogether. For example, when Kobeni required assistance, he mercilessly eliminated the restaurant’s employees and bystanders, sparing only her. This behavior likely stems from Denji’s influence and the extraordinary nature of their bond.

Returning to the main discussion, we observe further developments in the Makima vs. Chainsaw Man battle. In this instance, Makima employed a similar “Bang”Gun Devil technique against him. However, the outcome differed significantly—Pochita did not sustain as much damage then.

A close examination of the panels reveals that he received the blow directly to the chest without actively attempting to block it. Additionally, one of her attacks propelled him into space, yet his body remained unscathed.

In response, he extracted his heart, sent it back to earth, and regenerated almost instantaneously without requiring blood. This display is exceptionally impressive and serves as another testament to Pochita’s remarkable abilities. Consequently, this raises the question of why he is currently sustaining so much damage when he previously encountered similar attacks with little to no adverse reaction.

As of yet, the manga hasn’t provided a definitive explanation for this change, leaving the rationale ambiguous. It is well-known that Chainsaw Man is not entirely invulnerable; he has suffered injuries in the past and had to retreat during battles against the Four Horsemen and the Weapon Devils, although those situations were distinctly different.

One possible reason for Pochita’s current vulnerability is his reluctance to harm Asa Mitaka, Denji’s love interest. Despite their earlier encounter before her transformation, it’s likely that Pochita wouldn’t have killed her outright but instead aimed to instill fear for attacking him initially.
