Pokémon fans are disappointed not to enjoy this iconic remake

Pokémon Black & White fans are furious that Game Freak skipped the Generation 5 remakes in favor of the upcoming return to the Kalos region.

The Pokémon series has followed a format for remakes of the main games, with one set appearing on a new console each time, starting with Pokémon FireRed & LeafGreen on the Game Boy Advance.

This system continued into the Nintendo Switch era, with Pokémon Sparkling Diamond & Sparkling Pearl. However, these aren’t the only games based on Generation 4, as the Switch also received Pokémon Legends: Arceus, a new prequel set in the ancient Sinnoh region.

Fans were expecting a remake or prequel set in the Unova region of Pokémon Black & White. Not only would this follow the convention created by Game Freak, but it would also follow the many references to Unova made in Pokémon Scarlet & Violet’s DLC.

Pokémon Black & White fans are unhappy about missing out on a remake

Unfortunately, the Generation 5 games are being skipped, as was revealed during the Pokémon Day 2024 celebration, the series returns to Generation 6’s Kalos in Pokémon Legends ZA. This angered fans on the PokémonBDSP Reddit, who voiced their complaints online.

So GameFreak decided to skip Unova… byu/IkariOFFI inPokemonBDSP

“This sucks because my favorite Pokémon, Feuillajou, is still not on the switch,” one user wrote, while another said, “It’s okay, I have Palworld now.”

“Not to be funny but I think Johto/G,S,C was just as badly mistreated,” one fan wrote, “The typically unimaginative logic said Celebi Legends for Johto, and B&W remake for Unova. And they managed to find a way to just skip both haha.”

“They don’t do normal remakes (aka, not let’s go) 2 generations in a row, at least since gen 4.” another fan explained, “I would have been surprised if they had already moved on to gen 5 remakes because that’s not consistent with what they’ve done so far.”

“Now Legends Z is even less consistent with their models, so consistency and trends absolutely don’t say everything, but they still say something.”

It’s possible that Pokémon Black & White remakes are in development, but the rumored Nintendo Switch 2 delay may have pushed their reveal to be postponed. If Game Freak follows the rule of one set of remakes per generation, then we may have to wait for the Switch’s successor before we can return to Unova.
