Pokemon Fans Want Game Freak to Change Age-Old Ability Ruining Classic Legendaries

Pokemon enthusiasts are expressing disappointment over the missed opportunities for several Legendaries from previous generations who possess a single, unexciting ability: Pressure.

Some of the most powerful and iconic Pokemon in the franchise are considered Legendary, but not all of them live up to their full potential in terms of strength and coolness. This is particularly noticeable with some of the older Legendaries, as noted by WeedleTwineedle on Twitter/X in their tweet (link provided).

Currently, there exists 15 Legendary Pokemon who possess the Pressure ability, which results in an increase in the amount of PP the opponent depletes with each attack they make.

This tactic is handy for applying pressure on your opponent (no pun intended) by compelling them to deplete their resources. However, some players, such as the poster, view it as a missed chance to utilize cherished Legendaries like Mewtwo, Ho-Oh, and Dialga.

WeedleTwineedle expressed their desire for [Game Freak] to eventually revamp these aspects. They also suggested a potential method to enhance Ho-Oh, potentially amplifying the strength of its signature move, Sacred Fire.

In a subsequent tweet, the user expressed their opinion that the ability to pressure and stall out opponents in PP is a valuable strategy, but they also believed that Legendary Pokemon should have more impactful abilities. Although not every Legendary should have a signature ability, the user suggested that replacing pressure with more unique abilities would be beneficial.

Many Pokemon fans, including WeedleTwineedle, shared the sentiment that the ability “pressure”seemed like a placeholder for Legendaries in the early Generations. This was due to the fact that many of these Legendaries were incredibly overpowered upon their introduction.

Despite the introduction of numerous new Pokemon and mechanics, the older Legends lack the excitement and strength they once had. This is particularly evident when comparing them to newer Legends such as Koraidon and Miraidon, the mascots of Scarlet and Violet, who have the ability to create weather and terrain effects and reap additional bonuses from them, in addition to their usual perks.

Some individuals proposed alterations to the abilities of certain Legendaries to more accurately align with their established lore and powers within the game’s universe. One such suggestion was that Dialga should have an ability that enables it to set up Trick Room, while Palkia’s ability should allow it to activate Gravity.

Thankfully, even though Pressure may not be considered an exciting ability, there are still plenty of Legendaries that possess Hidden Abilities. While they may not be as thrilling as the recently suggested abilities by the community, The Crown Tundra DLC for Sword and Shield has introduced the Ability Patch, which allows for standard Abilities to be transformed into Hidden Abilities for Pokemon.
