Niantic has announced that the difficulty level of Gigantamax Raids in Pokemon Go will be decreased with the launch of Gigantamax Gengar on October 31.
In a post on X/Twitter dated October 29, the game developers addressed player concerns and revealed that they will implement several modifications. With the introduction of G-Max Gengar, there will be a noticeable reduction in the challenge posed by Max Battles when compared to those featuring Venusaur, Charizard, and Blastoise.
In addition to easing the challenge, Trainers who successfully defeat Gengar will earn a reward of 25,000 Stardust, and the likelihood of capturing the Pokémon will also see an increase.
It’s important to note that Niantic has not clarified whether these adjustments will extend to future Gigantamax Pokémon or if they plan to continuously assess the balance of subsequent additions to Max Battles after Gengar’s release, coinciding with Part 2 of the Halloween event in Pokemon Go.

The community response to these upcoming changes has been largely positive, with many players expressing gratitude to Niantic for valuing their input.
“Thank you, Niantic. This will make G-Max battles more accessible for more Trainers,” commented one user on X.
Conversely, some players feel that Niantic hasn’t fully tackled the underlying issue with Max Battles, specifically the requirement for a high number of participants to successfully complete a Gigantamax encounter.
“It’s not the challenge that’s the problem,” remarked Joe Merrick from Serebii, adding, “The real barrier is needing over 20 local players adequately prepared with max-level counters, which discourages the vast majority of players.”
Another user asserted, “If I can’t win it with just four or five players, I’m not interested. Large Raid groups aren’t viable anymore since remote raiding became available,” they commented on X.
It remains unclear whether ongoing critiques regarding the structure of Max Battles will lead to further modifications in Pokemon Go’s mechanics inspired by Generation 8.
