Pokemon Go Aspiring Dragons Event Reviews: Disappointment Over Wild Spawn Rates

Pokémon Go has recently announced an intriguing event titled “Aspiring Dragons Research Day,”scheduled for December 7. However, this event has left many fans scratching their heads due to the unexpected lineup of Pokémon lacking any direct connection to dragons.

Part of the Dual Destiny season, the Aspiring Dragons event focuses on Pokémon that have the potential to evolve into Dragon-types. Participants who complete the designated Research Tasks can expect encounters with Horsea, Trapinch, Swablu, and Skrelp—all of which have enhanced rates for Shiny variants.

Event Raises Questions About Pokémon Selection

However, the selection of Wild Encounters has raised eyebrows within the community. According to the official Pokémon Go website, trainers can also encounter Spearow, Yanma, Carvanha, Dwebble, Ducklett, and Binacle during this event. As highlighted by fans on The Silph Road subreddit, these Pokémon seem to bear no resemblance to anything dragon-related, leaving many puzzled.

One user expressed their disbelief, stating, “Spearow… Dwebble… Ducklett??? What am I missing here? Could they not have chosen Pokémon that might be associated with dragons?” Another commenter quipped, “‘Aspiring Dragons’ and we get to encounter hermit crabs instead. Very nice.”

This peculiar choice prompts further questions, especially considering the vast array of Dragon-type Pokémon available in Pokémon Go. Options like Dratini, Gible, Jangmo-o, Goomy, and Axew could have easily been included to better align with the overarching theme.

The seemingly random selection for the Wild Encounters has caused frustration among trainers. After all, the purpose of themed events is to immerse players in a specific motif. What ends up happening is a sense of disconnect that does not resonate with the intended experience.

As it stands, the core attraction of the Aspiring Dragons Research Day seems to hinge on the Research Tasks and the increase in Shiny rates, rather than the variety of Wild Encounters. Catching a Shiny Swablu or Trapinch leads to exciting evolutions, whereas encountering a Shiny Ducklett or Swanna may not inspire the same level of enthusiasm.
