Pokemon Go Champion Calls for Improvements to Flawed PvP System

While the 2024 Pokemon Go Fest brought in new creatures and gameplay elements, there are some players who are dissatisfied with the current state of the game’s PvP. On July 18, 2023, World Champion ItsAXN released a video urging the developers to address some of the major issues with PoGo before the next Championship event.

The competitive player began the video by expressing, “I believe in spreading positivity and promoting the game, but the current state of it is not good. Therefore, I feel compelled to speak up about it.”

The 2024 Pokemon World Championships, scheduled to be held in Honolulu, Hawaii from August 16 to August 18, are at risk due to potential issues in the Go Battle League, according to ItsAXN.

The creator addressed numerous bugs and problems present in Pokemon Go’s PvP mode in their video. These issues range from frozen screens to brief moments of lag that result in defeat without the ability to react, as well as the absence of debuff text, making it difficult to understand the game’s events.

According to ItsAXN, the 25-game restriction is severely restricting our ability to improve, enjoy, and expand this game. Without the opportunity to actually play those 25 games, it becomes increasingly difficult to make progress and enjoy the game.

The present title holder also pointed out that Android devices are more susceptible to these problems in contrast to iPhones, stating, “Pokemon Go is meant to be highly accessible. If one must purchase a high-end phone, it becomes extremely difficult for anyone to view this game as legitimate.”

Finally, in his concluding remarks, he expressed his frustration by stating, “The major issue I have with all of this is the lack of acknowledgement or the tendency to ignore these problems. While there is a ‘known issues’ page for GBL, it is rather inadequate…many of the concerns I have addressed are either labeled as resolved or not even mentioned on that list.”

In his post, X, he went on to share an extra video highlighting the problems present in the game, with the hope that Niantic would address them before the next tournament. He also noted that GBL had been his primary means of practice prior to winning the Championship, as is the case for many other competitors.

In a Reddit post, user ‘Greninja_D_Raizo’ expressed their hope that the world champion’s voice would bring attention to the issues and encourage Niantic to take action.

Despite some players seeing it as a significant move, others have already given up, citing that they stopped playing PvP “years ago,”when a well-known figure in the community started discussing these problems.

We will continue to provide updates on the latest Pokemon Go news in the event that Niantic decides to address the GBL problems. In the meantime, be sure to check the Raid schedule to capture the strongest species and defeat Giovanni.
