The Pokemon Go community was left feeling frustrated upon discovering that a fan had received a 7-day ban for submitting a Waypoint.
Niantic Wayfarer is a tool that allows players to submit new Waypoints for games like Pokemon Go, which are then converted into PokeStops.
Despite the potential benefits, the ability for Wayfarer users to approve community-submitted Waypoints has caused significant frustration within the community. This is due to the frequent rejection of submitted Waypoints.
This has led to certain Pokemon Go players being subjected to extended bans on both their PoGo and Wayfarer accounts.
It appears that these restrictions may be gaining momentum once more, as a discussion titled “Can waypoints result in a ban?”on the Pokemon Go subreddit has gained attention among users.
The OP elaborated, stating, “My friend completed the waypoint tutorial a few days ago and finally achieved level 37.”
The fan further added that their friend recently submitted a sign for the local beach through Wayfarer, following the normal submission process. This was the friend’s very first submission on the platform.
“When he woke up today, he discovered an email from Niantic informing him of a 7-day ban. This has left him feeling anxious about submitting any more waypoints, as he fears that a random person may report it and result in another ban.”
Despite the various negative experiences shared by trainers in the comments, their frustrations towards the Wayfarer acceptance process were clearly expressed.
According to one player, they submitted a waypoint that was denied. However, the same person who reviewed it resubmitted the exact same one, this time including pictures, and it was approved.
Some people stated that they had abandoned submitting Waypoints altogether because of similar situations. “As soon as I discovered this could occur, I stopped submitting anything. I was eager to explore and discover new routes, but being penalized for something so confusing is absolutely ridiculous.”
The OP has provided an update on the post, informing the community that the trainer involved has been trying to contact Niantic to address the issue, but has not yet been successful.
