A popular Pokémon first introduced during the Sun & Moon era continues to be absent from Pokémon Go, leading to frustration among players who view this as a significant missed opportunity.
Mimikyu, the Generation 7 Ghost/Fairy-type Pokémon that, as its name suggests, mimics the appearance of Pikachu, has been highly requested by the Pokémon Go community since 2016.
“We’ve already waited years for this Pokémon to finally come to Pokémon Go,” remarked one highly upvoted thread on Reddit, adding, “How long are we still supposed to wait? We NEED Mimikyu this Halloween update and not just some Pikachu dressed up as it.”
The responses to the original post included various theories as to why Mimikyu has yet to debut in the mobile game, with one player speculating that the challenge may stem from Mimikyu’s special ability, Disguise, which could be difficult to adapt within Pokémon Go’s combat system.
Mimikyu was first showcased in 2016’s Pokémon Sun & Moon.
“Niantic probably just put Mimikyu on the back burner until they figure out how to implement abilities,” another player suggested.
Others expressed confusion over why a plethora of cosmetics themed around this Alolan Pokémon had been released when it remains unavailable. “Right? Made me think I missed an event,” another commenter agreed.
With Halloween approaching and Ghost-types typically highlighted during seasonal events, many players are hopeful that 2024 will be the year Niantic decides to expand the Alolan Pokédex further. The developer has not yet revealed its plans for this year’s celebration of the spooky season.
Stay tuned for more details in the upcoming weeks. In the meantime, there’s plenty happening in Pokémon Go. Along with the introduction of Dynamax in Max Out, Galar Legendaries Zacian and Zamazenta are making their debut. Additionally, Mega Gardevoir is currently featured in Raids.
