Some Pokémon Go fans have predicted that the prices of certain cosmetics will skyrocket following the controversial avatar update.
The recent avatar update in Pokémon Go has not been well-received by some fans, with many arguing that the new models look “horrific”and that some body proportions appear odd.
Now, some fans have predicted that the price of certain types of cosmetics will skyrocket in the in-game store following this update. The type of cosmetic in question being items that cover the face.
A post on the Pokémon Go subreddit read: “Niantic plays 4D chess: Mask sales set to explode as Avatar Apocalypse spreads globally.”
The original poster included images of the Teralope Headband, Giratina Helmet, Tutafeh Mask, and Tutankafer Helmet.

These cosmetic items all cover the majority of the avatar’s face, so trainers wouldn’t have to look at updated players’ faces.
Others in the comments shared alternative cosmetic combinations that could be used to achieve the effect. “I got this Solgaleo Mask so I wouldn’t have to see the abomination that is my avatar’s face,” one fan said.
Another trainer said: “I have always worn the Giant Pumpkin Pikachu Mask, and I will continue to do so.”
For those interested, the Mega Rayquaza Hat, Zeroid Hat, and Rhi Style Helmet with Goggles are other cosmetic options that completely cover the avatar’s face.
Given that Niantic just rolled out the avatar update, it seems unlikely that the developer will return to old models anytime soon. For now, Pokémon Go players will just have to try to make their avatars as aesthetically pleasing as possible with the new system.
