Pokémon Go fans are making waves over the overall challenge

Some Pokémon Go players have criticized community members for removing players from their friends list for not making enough Pretty Throws during the 2024 Lunar New Year Global Challenge.

As many Pokémon Go fans know, the 2024 Lunar New Year event is currently underway. This event offers many Dragon-type Pokémon such as Minidraco, Sonistrelle and Draïeul to capture.

However, the event also brought a huge Global Challenge for trainers around the world to complete: Make 1,000,000,000 Pretty Throws.

While many are working hard to try and complete this challenge, it seems to have caused internal strife in the community as some players have removed friends who have not contributed enough Pretty Rolls.

A post on the Pokémon Go subreddit criticized these players in a discussion titled, “Don’t remove friends who don’t seem to be making Nice Rolls for the [Global] Challenge.”

Essentially, the original poster criticized some community members who claimed to have removed members from their friends list for not making enough Pretty Throws because it showed they were “inactive.”

According to the trainer, “Not only is it an asshole attitude to do this if someone just has IRL stuff going on, isn’t playing for a day, is sick, etc… It ALSO DOES NOT show the friends who HAVE made some nice throws!”

Many in the comments agreed with the original poster’s outrage. “Exactly. Not participating does not mean being inactive,” argued one trainer. “Always remove friends based on your gaming preferences. For me, my friends list is always full so I give nicknames to friends with our last interaction date…”

The conversation also rekindled a desire among many fans to have better communication through the friends list. “We need a better way to tell who is active and who is not anyway. What did Thing capture 2 days ago?! What a joke,” said one trainer.

Another fan noted that since many trainers use auto-wrestlers, this way of thinking about removing friends was misguided.

While it appears that the Global Challenge is already completed with time to spare at the time of writing, it appears that this mishap has certainly agitated many members of the Pokémon Go community.
