The debate surrounding remote gameplay in Pokemon Go, whether it be community events or Raid battles, is ongoing and inevitable.
Many features in Pokemon Go, such as the highly debated Mega Rayquaza Elite Raids, require players to participate in real-life events. This can be frustrating for some players, particularly for events with limited availability or difficult accessibility.
Fans have been heavily discussing the gameplay mechanic of trading and the absence of any remote options to accompany it. This sparked a heated community debate online, with opinions divided on whether remote trading will ever be implemented in Pokemon Go.

Many players were drawn to the concept of remote trading. One player even expressed, “I really wish I could do it. I used to have a bunch of real-life friends who played, but I’m now the only one remaining. I just don’t have the energy to meet new people solely for the purpose of this game.”
Some individuals suggested potential approaches for the system, proposing that it could rely on Lucky Friends or implement limitations based on CP. One player recommended that it should only allow for random Lucky trades, adding that it would require interaction and effort.
Some were not convinced, however. A player mentioned Michael Steranka from Niantic and his dismissals in interviews regarding the potential addition of remote trades – such as in this episode of the Battle Catz podcast.
During the discussion, a player shared their thoughts, stating, “Converting regionals and others into gold spam would be too simple. That’s why it will never be allowed.”Another player also chimed in, adding, “It would render regionals meaningless if one could easily obtain them from someone in a different country online.”
A few readers sought a compromise, with one suggesting, “Even if we could only trade once with a lucky friend after being lucky for x number of days, it would still be better than nothing… It’s impossible to complete the entire dex without being wealthy and having the ability to travel around the globe.”
Although there is debate in the Pokemon Go community about the concept of remote trading, it is evident that this feature will continue to be a source of controversy. Niantic has expressed doubt about implementing remote trading, but it is not impossible for unexpected developments to occur.
