Niantic has launched an exciting new event for Pokémon Go called Fashion Week: Taken Over, where players can look forward to acquiring fresh Pokémon, collectibles, and various items.
One of the standout features of this event is the introduction of Shroodle, an adorable yet spirited Poison and Normal-type Pokémon from the Paldea region. Players will be able to evolve Shroodle into Grafaiai by feeding it 50 candies. However, there is a significant challenge that players are facing in their quest to catch this new addition.
Community Outcry Over Shroodle’s 12km Egg Lock
The announcement of Fashion Week: Taken Over sparked a wave of reactions from the Pokémon Go community, particularly concerning Shroodle’s method of availability. Players took to social media, particularly X (formerly Twitter), to express their frustration over the egg-locked status of Shroodle, describing the situation as a “joke.”
The way you guys are making this game not fun and enjoyable is crazy. I am feeling like moving on to other games.

Comments from players further illustrate their discontent, with one user stating, “Please stop with the 12k egg-specific hatches. They’re not good.” Another echoed this sentiment, lamenting, “Looks like another Pokémon I’ll never get because I can’t be bothered with 12km eggs. You really know how to get someone to not play your game.”
While many in the community have expressed general disapproval towards egg-locked Pokémon, the particular focus has been on the frustration surrounding 12km hatches. As one player noted, “The 7km eggs aren’t that big of an issue; it’s the 12km.”
Understanding the Controversy Around Egg Locking in Pokémon Go
In Pokémon Go, players are able to hatch rare Pokémon from eggs of varying distances, including:
- 2km
- 5km
- 7km
- 10km
- 12km
Among these, 12km eggs have become a focal point of controversy. Although they are meant to be the rarest, their increased prevalence in the game has frustrated players, who have repeatedly called on developer Niantic to reconsider this system, especially regarding the 12km distance.
The lengthy time required to hatch a single 12km egg, coupled with the desire to obtain specific Pokémon like Shroodle, makes the process feel particularly daunting. Consequently, some players have even voiced their dissatisfaction to the extent of contemplating leaving the game entirely.
Despite ongoing feedback from the player community, Niantic has yet to respond to these concerns, which leaves the door open for more 12km egg-locked Pokémon to emerge in future events.
