Players of Pokemon Go are convinced that fusions will be added to the mobile game in 2024, as the game has been teasing new features for that year.
In order to continuously provide a refreshing experience for players worldwide, Pokemon Go frequently introduces new game mechanics, NPCs, and features.
Niantic has officially announced that Necrozma will make its long-awaited debut at Pokemon Go Fest 2024, and it appears that the Legendary Pokemon will introduce the highly-requested game mechanic of fusions.
Recently, The Pokemod Group, a reliable leaker, revealed new texts found in the latest April update of Pokemon Go’s code. These texts indicate that fusions may be coming to the game and mention several Pokemon species such as Necrozma, Lunala, Solgaleo, Kyurem, Zekrom, Reshiram, and Gen 8’s Calyrex.
It has been confirmed that Necrozma will make its debut in Pokemon Go along with its shiny variant. Additionally, players will have the opportunity to obtain Dusk Mane Necrozma (a fusion with Solgaleo) and Dawn Wings Necrozma (a fusion with Lunala).
Niantic is happy, they added several placeholder assets related to fusion. They also added some 3D models for ‘Raid Boss Unfuse Temp’ and also fusion and unfusion cutscenes for Dawn Wings and Dusk Mane🙂 #Datamine #PokemonGO pic.twitter.com/P0XKTu7xFL

Although there have been numerous mentions of these highly-anticipated fusions, it remains unclear how players will obtain them. According to the Pokemod Group, these fused Pokemon will not be tradable and are expected to have some involvement in Raids. Considering that all of the leaked Pokemon are Legendaries, this comes as no surprise.
It is worth noting that White Kyurem and Black Kyurem were unintentionally included as Go Battle League rewards in Pokemon Go in December 2023. While a few players were able to add these Legendary creatures to their Pokedex, Niantic eventually removed them and offered trainers a generous amount of items as compensation. This could suggest that Niantic is prepared to introduce fusion mechanics, but is likely waiting for Necrozma’s introduction to properly implement it.
