In June 2024, Mega Rayquaza will be appearing in Mega Raids. To assist you in defeating it, we have compiled a guide containing information on its vulnerabilities and the most effective counters.
There is nothing stronger than a Legendary Pokemon, except for a Mega-Evolved Legendary Pokemon. After a long wait, players can now battle and catch Mega Rayquaza in Pokemon Go and complete their Pokedex.
Initially, this intimidating adversary was exclusively encountered at the 2023 in-person Pokemon Go Fest gatherings held in Osaka, London, and New York. However, it was not until August 26, during the global Pokemon Go Fest event, that it was officially introduced to the rest of the world. On June 29, 2024, Mega Rayquaza will become available as a formidable opponent in Elite Raids.
No matter where you encounter Mega Rayquaza, the battle will be extremely challenging. Therefore, it is crucial to be aware of its weaknesses and have a strong team of counters in order to emerge victorious.
Mega Rayquaza Weaknesses
Mega Rayquaza, being a Dragon/Flying-type Pokemon, has a vulnerability to Dragon, Fairy, Ice, and Rock-type attacks. Its weakness to Ice-type attacks in particular makes it a prime target for strategic focus.
Conversely, Mega Rayquaza is immune to Bug, Fighting, Fire, Grass, Ground, and Water-type attacks, so it is best to avoid using them whenever possible.

The following are some of the most effective counters for defeating Mega Rayquaza:

How to get Mega Rayquaza in Pokemon Go
During the in-person Pokemon Go Fest 2023 events in London (August 4-6), Osaka (August 4-6), and New York City (August 18-20), Mega Rayquaza made its initial appearance. Its global debut then took place during the Pokemon Go Fest 2023: Global event (August 26-27).
On June 29, 2024, Mega Rayquaza will make a comeback in Elite Raids. It will have increased chances of appearing at 12:00 PM, 1:00 PM, 5:00 PM, and 6:00 PM in your local time.
In Pokemon Go, obtaining a Mega Rayquaza is not as simple as catching it. Instead, one must defeat multiple Mega Rayquaza in Raid Battles in order to acquire sufficient Mega Rayquaza Energy for the Mega Evolution of their own Rayquaza (which can be quite a mouthful to say).
In order to fulfill its second special requirement, Mega Rayquaza must also know the move Dragon Ascent. This can only be achieved by teaching it to Rayquaza using a Meteorite obtained through completing Research tasks during Go Fest 2023 events.
After completing all of the necessary tasks, you will have the ability to temporarily Mega-Evolve your preferred Rayquaza. The positive aspect is that once you have successfully done this, you will not require any additional Mega Energy to perform the evolution again. You will simply have to wait for the cooldown period to be over.
