Niantic has announced a Mega Rayquaza Special Raid event in response to fan criticism of the previous Mega Rayquaza Elite Raid day. This event marks the return of one of the most powerful Legendary Pokemon to Go.
Make sure to have enough Remote Raid Passes on hand for the latest event, as players can now use them to participate. Join forces with friends and take on raids together, and you may even have a chance to catch a Shiny Rayquaza and obtain the Meteorite item required to evolve it into its formidable Mega Rayquaza form.
Similar to past Raid events, this opportunity will be limited to a specific timeframe during the day. While it may not guarantee success in PvP like the Master League, it can greatly benefit participants in Raids, especially with the impending arrival of Shadow Cresselia.

Pokemon Go Mega Rayquaza Special Raid Event: Date & time
The Mega Rayquaza Special Raid Event is scheduled for Saturday, August 3, 2024, and will run from 11:00 AM to 6:00 PM in local time.
The raids will occur during the following times:
- Saturday, August 3, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. local time
- Saturday, August 3, 2024, at 1:00 p.m. local time
- Saturday, August 3, 2024, at 6:00 p.m. local time
During these designated hours, there will be an increased chance of encountering Mega Rayquaza in 5-Star Raids. Trainers who successfully defeat Mega Rayquaza will also have the opportunity to encounter regular Rayquaza.
Nevertheless, completing Timed Research on the designated day will still grant Trainers the Meteorite item required to evolve the Legendary Pokemon into Mega Rayquaza.
If you participate in several Raids, there is a chance that you may encounter a Shiny version of Rayquaza, one of the most powerful attackers in Pokemon Go.
Mega Rayquaza Special Raid Event: Bonuses
During the event, Pokemon Go Trainers can enjoy the following bonuses by playing:
- There will be a higher chance of encountering Mega Rayquaza in Raid Battles.
- There is a higher likelihood of encountering a Shiny Rayquaza.
- The Remote Raid limit will be raised to 20 from Friday, August 2 at 5:00 p.m. until Saturday, August 3, 2024 at 8:00 p.m. PDT.
