As a part of the 2024 Pokemon Worlds Championships, Niantic and The Pokemon Company have revealed a set of modifications that will be implemented in PvP battles within Pokemon Go.
During the Day 1 Pokemon Go Livestream for Worlds, presenter Caleb Peng revealed the extensive range of modifications that will be implemented in PvP for Go.
One significant change is the decrease of the switch timer from 60 seconds to 50, allowing players to switch between Pokemon faster during battles. Additionally, various Pokemon now have the ability to learn different attacks, and certain moves have been modified with buffs and nerfs.
The complete list was compiled and posted on TheSilphRoad, where fans immediately began analyzing the changes to determine who would benefit in the competitive battling scene.
Some of the most significant changes include:
- Rock Slide damage decreased from 75 to 65
- Dig damage decreased from 80 to 70
- Brutal Swing damage decreased from 65 to 55 but energy cost decreased
- Night Shade damage increased from 60 to 80 and energy cost decreased
- Shadow Punch damage increased from 40 to 55
- Togetic can now learn Draining Kiss
- Tapu Lele can now learn Draining Kiss
- Galarian Slowbro can now learn Brutal Swing
Despite the extensive list of alterations and numerous changes to Pokemon movesets, players are expressing their contentment with the shifting meta. One fan even remarked, “It seems like Niantic finally got tired of the stagnant top meta and decided to shake things up.”
Several comments mentioned specific Pokemon, including one that remarked, “I never would have expected Volt Switch Forretress, haha!”Another comment elaborated, “I might have to finally use that Shadow Pineco I’ve been keeping for years!”
Ultimately, several individuals also brought up the significant impact of the extensive fine-tuning on PvP in its entirety. “This will undoubtedly cause utter chaos,”stated one person, while another chimed in, “It’s going to be a massive, chaotic shift.”
