A Pokémon Go player has taken failing to catch a Pokémon seriously, now debating whether she should end her relationship over a missed Morpheo.
Pokémon Go is a community game, meaning many couples enjoy the title together, often by trading Pokémon, completing tasks, Raids, and battling in Arenas together.
So, many view their experience as a team game. When one of them finds a Pokémon they were looking for as a pair, they both aim to capture it.
However, this did not extend to a couple, with one player asking the community if she should end her relationship with her boyfriend because of a failed Morpheo.
A missed Morphéo in Pokémon Go almost caused a breakup
“This seems harsh… but I know my people will support me,” the Pokémon Go player began, sharing her story of heartbreak on Reddit.

“It happened this morning…in the early hours, me asleep, the cats asleep, the world was quiet. It was unseasonably warm in my area, hopes of collecting that last Snow Morpheo were dwindling by the day,” she wrote.
“My boyfriend and I have slightly different sleep schedules, and I’ve been known to log into his Pokémon Go while he’s sleeping if I see something important he needs on the app.”
“And yet, shortly after I woke up this morning, this man decides to casually blurt out ‘oh hey, I caught a Snow Morpheo this morning.’ Excuse me? I haven’t felt this kind of betrayal in years…decades…he knew I needed it too and what did he do? Nothing. What a shame. Nada. Nothing. He abandoned me, and the sanctity of our relationship,” the player joked, then asking them what they should do and if they should end their relationship.
Morpheos are part of the Weather Week event, which tasks players with capturing every type of Morpheo in the game. However, each is limited to appearing only in certain types of weather, and many fans criticize its availability and rarity in certain countries.
This makes this missed opportunity extremely difficult for the player and the “betrayal” all the stronger.
One user joked, “Release him into the wild,” while another commented that the player should “transfer him to the professor,” referring to the game’s Professor Chen.
Others laughed that betrayal was “legal grounds for divorce. I think a judge would be on your side.”
Losing a Pokémon isn’t legal grounds for divorce, but it sure can seem like it when you’ve been searching for a rare Pokémon like Morpheo during the Weather Week event.
