Pokémon Go players are criticizing the shiny colors used by Chansey’s lineage following its highlight during the recent Chansey Community Day event.
Fans of the Pokémon series have often been surprised by the choice of shiny colors in the games. There are times when shiny choices seem entirely logical, while others defy logic, especially when they are too similar to the base form.
It’s especially frustrating when a Pokémon’s later evolution stage has a disappointing shiny form. This leads to players not wanting to evolve their shiny Pokémon for fear that the ‘My cool that they fought so hard for will turn into something ugly.
The latest Pokémon to draw the ire of the fanbase is Chansey, which was featured during a Pokémon Go Community Day event. This event featured increased spawn rates for Chansey and encounters with its evolution, Bliss, meaning fans have a higher chance of encountering a shiny version of these elusive Pokémon.

A user on the Pokémon Go Reddit created a thread criticizing the choice of shiny colors for Chansey’s lineage. This is because Chansey turns from pink to green, while Ptiravi and Bliss turn another shade of pink in their shiny form.

“When I evolved my shiny Chansey, I had to look twice because I thought I evolved a regular by mistake,” one user wrote, “The difference between normal and shiny Bliss is practically non-existent.”
“This bloodline is so weird,” another user wrote, “Ptiravi has super shiny. Chansey turns green vomits. Then Euphoria is almost indistinguishable from ordinary.”
“Lucy was created first in 1996, Bliss came in 1999, and Ptiravi came out later in 2006,” one user said in the thread, “Not sure who is in charge of shiny at Game Freak, but they need to ensure that new mons have easy-to-spot shinies and at least somewhat consistent in their color schemes.”
It is unclear how The Pokémon Company determines shiny colors for Pokémon, as there does not appear to be a consistent pattern among Pokémon. Even a cool looking Pokémon could get a dud shiny and there’s nothing fans can do about it.
Chansey’s bloodline suffers greatly from this thinking, as its evolution is a disgusting shade of green, but at least it is visually distinct. Meanwhile, the shiny form of its evolution is so boring that you’ll want to stick an Evoluroc to shiny Chansey and make sure he never lets it go.
