Pokémon Go player interrupted by unexpected visit from police

A Pokémon Go player has shared his “hilarious” story of how a neighbor called the police while he was playing the game on his daily walks.

The appeal that makes Pokémon Go so popular and unique is that it encourages players to get out, wander around, and discover new places in their quest to catch them all.

However, the game’s encouragement of walking, particularly in areas that players may be unfamiliar with, can lead to major misunderstandings.

For one Pokémon Go player, his daily walks with his partner became a source of suspicious activity for their neighbors, so much so that the police were called to their home to investigate.

The player in question posted the full story on Reddit, recounting the moment the police showed up at his door in great detail.

“So, I don’t know who could use a laugh, but the stupidest interaction just happened, and we’re still laughing about it,” the Pokémon Go player began.

“There was a knock on the door asking to speak with my roommate’s girlfriend. My roommate and I were there, and asked the officer what was wrong, because she was with the kids putting them to bed.”

“He proceeded to tell us that they had received a lot of calls about the couple walking around the neighborhood taking pictures with their phones, which made us burst out laughing, and explaining that everyone in the house plays Pokémon Go. He was very cool about it, even talking a little bit about how he used to play, and we were discussing how things had changed.”

The Pokémon player then continued. “Nothing came of it, and the officer just asked us to spread the word about why it happened, but I thought it was hilarious that you would call the police over something so trivial, and not just a call, but several.”

They finally added, “Just hilarious how people minding their own business, and just walking around with phones was apparently something the state police had to be involved in.”

The Reddit thread has garnered major traction among the Pokémon Go community, with many other players sharing their own experiences of being questioned by police while playing the game.

One Redditor commented, “My husband and I were stopped by the police three times due to suspicious activity while we were sitting in the car at the arena fighting. Twice we were told to move and act like we were doing something wrong. The other officer was cool and had played before. I can’t imagine having the police called to walk through my neighborhood while playing though.”

Another added, “A church near me has a sign that says “no pokman parking” . I laugh at the typo every time.”
