A Pokémon Go player has shared his local area’s rural overworld map, which looks drastically different from what most players are used to.
The ideal place for a Pokémon Go player is a big city. Not only is there likely to be an active community of players to interact with, but there will also be PokéStops and Gyms to interact with, giving you plenty of items and the chance to participate in Raids.
There are also a lot of Pokémon Go fans in rural areas, but the game is much more difficult for them, especially because Ranged Raid Passes can be expensive. This also means that people have to work harder to find people to play Pokémon Go with.
One of the benefits of living in a rural area is that the outside world often looks drastically different from the grids that make up most urban maps in Pokémon Go. This means that rural Pokémon Go players can at least enjoy the aesthetic of the game, even if everything else is more difficult for them.

A user on the Pokémon Go Mystic Reddit page shared a screenshot of how their game looks. Their overworld has perfect rows of greens and blues, a pattern rarely seen in mobile gaming.

The author explained that the image was taken on the Texas coast, in an area with many canals flowing between houses.
“Are you living in the farlands or something?” said one player, referring to the bugged region in Minecraft, while another added: “You live in my city in Cities: Skylines.”
One user mentioned, “I visited a friend in Florida before in a neighborhood like this, absolutely zero spawns,” while another wrote, “I hope you have a Pokémon that knows surfing.”
What’s impressive about the map is how much it appears to have been corrupted by a bug, creating a regular pattern that appears to come from a debug map. However, that’s just what the game is like on the Texas coast, lack of PokéStops and all.
There’s little Niantic could do to improve Pokémon Go’s map. Players want it to be as flat as possible so they can see all the important elements of the game world, like wild Pokémon or Gyms. This means that only people living in unique areas will get a map that isn’t just a grid or a vast plain of white or green.
