Pokemon Go enthusiasts are eagerly anticipating future events, particularly Halloween, in the hopes that Niantic will introduce the alternate form of a beloved Gen 1 Pokemon.
In a Reddit thread, the author expressed their excitement for the Halloween season by suggesting that Niantic should introduce Gigantamax Gengar. The author also requested the inclusion of the Greavard family for a chance to hunt for a Shiny variant.
Niantic has consistently hinted at the inclusion of Dynamaxing in Pokemon Go, and it is anticipated that this feature will follow the release of Shared Skies during the mobile title’s upcoming season.
A user showed their support for the initial request by responding, “I would be thrilled if they did that, but I also hope they make Mega Gengar available again for those who do not possess it.”
Mega Gengar was previously available through Mega Raids in October 2023 and has not been seen since. This has caused speculation that the Ghost/Poison-type Pokémon may be saved for this year’s Halloween event.

“Perhaps, but I can assure you that it will be another year without Mimikyu,”responded another person, causing others who were doubtful of either possibility to offer their opinions.
“They will continue to follow the trend of previous years and flood us with Drifloon, Phantump, and Pumpkaboo, just like they did last year, the year before, and the year before that,”one person confidently stated. They also added, “I have a feeling Sinistea will be included, as Niantic has a tendency to add seemingly useless Pokemon.”
“It was joked by another person that, given Niantic’s tendencies, we will likely see Eevee sporting a Mimikyu costume.”
Despite the hype surrounding Gigantamax Gengar, players should not expect it to appear anytime soon. Niantic has not mentioned it at all, and with some Mega evolutions still yet to be released, fans of Sword & Shield’s feature will have to wait patiently for their turn.
Until that time arrives, there is still plenty to keep busy with in Pokemon Go. The Triumph Together event is currently taking place and there is still an opportunity to capture Xerneas and Mega Salamence in Raids before they are replaced.
