A Pokémon Go player has criticized developer Niantic for the “poor”offerings currently available for purchase through the in-game Store.
Despite being over a decade old, Pokémon Go is still as popular as ever. The mobile game, developed by Niantic, continues to grow with new content, events, and more every month.
And while players are generally happy with the state of the game, there are still aspects that are causing negative reactions.
The main source of this being the in-game store. In a new thread on Reddit, a Pokémon Go player criticized the development team for the way they marketed their bundles in the store.
The original poster detailed how, “I opened Pokémon Go for the first time in a few years and saw a box of 50 incubators/supers for 7k. Not two weeks later, I see the same box with the same contents but for “60% off” , yet at the same price of 7k. Shame! Shame on all your houses, Niantic!»
Other Pokémon Go players also shared their thoughts, with many of them agreeing with the frustration expressed by the original Redditor.
“Bundle prices are generally not the flat value of all items added together, normally there is an undeclared discount for purchasing the bundle compared to purchasing each item separately (see literally any box former).»
“Presenting the price this way is a cheap marketing trick to trick people’s brains into thinking, “Oh, big savings!” and potentially buying it when they might not have if only the price of the bundle had been listed. Artificially inflating the price of something just to present a false economy is a lousy thing to do.»
Time will tell if Niantic addresses these recent Store criticisms, but if they do, we’ll be sure to keep you informed.
