Pokémon Go players are calling for an overhaul for Master Study encounters

Members of the Pokémon Go community believe there should be a big change regarding encounters with Legendary Pokémon obtained through paid Master Studies.

Master Study quests in Pokémon Go are a guaranteed way to get an encounter with a rare legendary Pokémon, but some trainers think there should be a big change in how IVs are handled for these encounters.

A post on the Pokémon Go subreddit by a user named CombProfessional434 sparked discussion within the community after they argued, “Mythical Pokémon from Special Studies should have higher base IVs.”»

For example, the recent Masterwork Sparks of Gratitude offers trainers who purchase the respective ticket a guaranteed encounter with a shiny Shaymin.

However, many fans were left unsatisfied with their encounters after their shiny Shaymin ended up with bad IVs.

“Nothing is more exciting than finally getting that shiny Mew, Celebi, Shaymin, etc., only for the IVs to be 10/10/10,” the author explained. “Like, really?” We paid for the shiny and did all this work just to get a ‘poor IV Pokemon’?»

Some fans were cautious about having Pokémon with guaranteed high IVs, however, fearing a shift toward pay-to-win microtransactions.

“I guess it’s so they can’t be accused of allowing pay-to-win,” one trainer said. “It’s one thing to let people BUY a Pokémon, it’s another to buy one that’s guaranteed to be good.»

Others have suggested that some form of IV training would be much appreciated. “They just need to add a way to change the IVs.” It’s been a mainstay for who knows how long and it makes everyone happy.»

At the moment, there is still no guarantee that Pokémon obtained through paid quests will have good IVs. While this change would certainly make some fans a lot happier, it doesn’t seem like a change developer Niantic will consider anytime soon.
