Pokémon Go players are disappointed with the removal of PokéStops from their university

Pokémon Go players are upset that a California university has removed all PokéStops on campus except for one.

An essential part of the Pokémon Go experience, PokéStops represent real-world points of interest that serve multiple purposes in the game. Indeed, they are the source of many items, including Pokémon Eggs, wild Pokémon, missions Field Study, and much more.

Fortunately, players can find PokéStops by visiting everything from art installations and churches to museums and college campuses.

These digital benchmarks don’t last forever, however. A private university in California has just deprived the community of a multitude of PokéStops.

Pokémon Go fans furious over PokéStops removed at university

A Pokémon Go player recently revealed in a Reddit post that their college campus, the University of the Pacific in California, went to the trouble of removing all but one of the available PokéStops.

Without sharing too many concrete details, the original poster informed his fellow players, “Our local university has removed ALL PokéStops on campus, except for one.”

According to another knowledgeable Redditor, such a decision can easily be attributed to the president of the private university. Students at the school plan to complain, the user continued.

They explained, “As a reminder, this is definitely a direct decision by the president of the university. I know many students plan to complain directly to him.”

Right now, it doesn’t seem like anyone is sure why the school removed PokéStops from Pokémon Go.

Someone in the comments offered a possible explanation based on past experience. When Pokémon Go initially launched, the Redditor said the State House in South Carolina received floods of visitors using PokéStops and Gyms.

Complaints to city officials resulted in Pokémon Go content being removed until former Governor Nikki Hayley wrote to Niantic in hopes of having Stops and Gyms reinstated. After all, they were good at attracting business and public interest. It is possible that similar complaints led to the recent changes at the UOP.
