Pokémon Go players are fed up with truly “useless” challenges

Pokémon Go players are fed up with the Team Challenges found in the mobile game, after many trainers in the community judged that the tasks were not worth doing.

Pokémon Go has developed a passionate fan base over the years, who share their admiration for the game and the various pocket monsters they’ve captured along the way.

However, many players in the community have often shared their distaste for the features, bugs, and any issues that arise in Niantic’s Pokémon mobile game. Whether it’s bugs unresolved for 7 years or new “ridiculously bad” shiny Pokémon, hot topics appear regularly.

One of these is Party Play, which, despite launching in October 2023, has seen players express that they were tired of the Team Challenges feature.

Pokémon Go players are fed up with mediocre Team Challenge rewards

Pokémon Go player 69Til420 expressed, “These stupid, pointless challenges only frustrate me. The rewards are extremely daunting. They’re not even real rewards.” The post was accompanied by various screenshots of different Team Challenges and their rewards.

“I will definitely never do these challenges again because I end up getting frustrated and have to stop playing the game. Damn the challenges and damn the person who designed the reward system,” they ended up saying.

Much of the frustration highlighted by players came from the amount of Poké Balls, other items, and time players were using up trying to complete each task and then receiving mediocre rewards.

Others agreed, but suggested ways Niantic could improve them, such as a “cumulative rewards system.” The idea was that the more tasks your team completes, the better the rewards given, as another responded: “The reward is the friends you make along the way.”

Waves of comments also echoed frustrations with the one-hour limit: “My wife and I always stop playing instead of remaking the team. Looks like they built in a timer to give up.”

Despite the waves of criticism Team Challenges received, the overall Party Play feature was praised for its addition to the game, which encourages and requires trainers to team up IRL.
