Pokémon Go players are overwhelmed by the removal of a Mega Raid

Pokémon Go players are disappointed after Niantic pulled Mega Absol Raid two days ahead of schedule, following a two-year wait for its first appearance.

Pokémon Go still offers a series of Raids that rotate every week. They are typically divided into 1-Star Raids, 3-Star Raids, 5-Star Raids, and Mega-Raids.

Regular Raids host everything from common wild encounters to unique Legendary Pokémon, but these never provide the opportunity to Mega evolve your team. To do this, trainers must complete Mega-Raids in a limited time.

With Méga-Absol, this is exactly what many intended to do, but it made an early surprise release leaving much of the community empty-handed and some even frustrated.

Pokémon Go Mega-Raid pulled early after two-year wait

Mega Absol was scheduled to be in Mega Raids from February 15 to February 22 but was removed early with Mega Garchomp taking its place on February 20. This early release followed a long two-year wait during which Mega Absolute was not available in Pokémon Go.

Expressing disappointment over the Raid’s removal, one player posted on Reddit, “Mega Absol is scheduled to be in raids until 10am on February 22, as reported by Niantic. It seems there was a bug and it was replaced by Garchomp before the expected time.»

Another trainer was also upset, responding, “I noticed this too, and I’m disappointed since I only did one raid and was planning on doing another today or tomorrow so I can get the rest of the mega energy I needed.»

The complaints continued with a different response stating, “Yes, it was an unfortunate surprise earlier today for me after a 30 minute walk to the nearest Mega Egg. No Megas hatched around and no reason to check if there had been a change.»

Although many players were annoyed by Mega Absol’s early departure, most were just eager for him to return, commenting things like, “I hope they bring him back and fix him,”and, “Really, I hope they return it for an ‘extra day’ or two.»

Niantic has been known to address issues with Raids, such as when they gave compensation to players affected by the accidental locking of Boreas Totemic form to shiny. Although compensation is not expected for Mega Absol, it could return in the near future to give trainers another chance to catch it.
