Pokémon Go players are choosing not to engage in Dynamax Battles due to the “sad defeat animations” that play when they defeat opposing Pokémon.
After months of anticipation, the highly awaited Dynamax feature has finally launched in Pokémon Go.
This new gameplay element is part of the ongoing Max Out season, which started on September 10 and will continue until December 3, 2024. Trainers now have the opportunity to catch Pokémon, transform them into their giant forms, and participate in exciting Dynamax Battles.
However, the introduction of these distinctive Pokémon, first seen in the Sword and Shield games, has not received the immediate acclaim that developer Niantic might have anticipated.
Trainers have expressed their concerns not only about the new Max Particle items but also about how “sad” the Dynamaxed Pokémon appear when they’re defeated in battle.
Why do they look so sad when you defeat them 🙁 by u/felipefoggia in pokemongo
Currently, only a handful of Pokémon can be Dynamaxed in Pokémon Go, including Skwovet, Bulbasaur, and Wooloo.
After a player shared an image of defeating a Dynamaxed version of one of these Pokémon during a raid, they raised the question of why they always “look so sad when you defeat them.”
The franchise has a history of featuring unique animations for defeated Pokémon, yet in Pokémon Go’s Dynamax battles, these defeat reactions are “breaking [the] hearts” of many trainers.
“I did a raid battle against a Slowpoke, and when I beat him, he had little x’s in his eyes. I about died,” remarked a Reddit user.
Others voiced feelings of “guilt,” describing themselves as “horrible people” for taking down Dynamax Pokémon, with some stating they “can’t do Dynamax battles” because of this emotional response.
Some even compared the experience to “abuse,” confessing that they “feel a little bad every time.”
While trainers aim to catch ’em all, many are finding it challenging to participate in the battling aspect of the game because of the “sad defeat animations” associated with Dynamaxed Pokémon.
