Pokemon Go is constantly evolving, with new Pokestops and Gyms appearing all over the world. However, there are also instances of Gyms and Pokestops being taken out of the game, which can greatly impact your Pokemon.
Each day, Niantic strives to enhance the game through adjustments, which may occasionally include the removal of Gyms from certain locations. This allows cities to free up space and prevent overcrowding, while also making room for new landmarks to be featured.
Regrettably, this can also significantly affect certain players’ Pokemon. Reports have surfaced of Pocket Monsters being lost due to these removed gyms, never to be seen in their inventory again.

Ever since the Gym was removed, it appears that the Lapras was never returned correctly and is currently stuck in a state of limbo.
Another player in the comments shared that it should be possible to contact Niantic to address this issue. They emphasized the significance of informing Niantic so that they can return the valuable Pokemon with the available data.
Some users reacted quickly with panic in the comments, stating: “Wait, what? I wasn’t aware that was possible?”
Some Pokemon Go players also reported a similar situation: “I occasionally encounter this right after my Pokemon is defeated in a gym, but it usually returns to normal shortly after.”
The community claims that this is a “frequent bug”and assures that it will be resolved within the next day or so.
Despite the aforementioned statement, a user revealed their experience of having a Chansey stuck in a non-existent gym since the last Go Fest Madrid (reportedly one that was created specifically for the event). They considered reporting the issue, but were intrigued by how long it would remain in that state. The user ended with a message of encouragement for their “pink baby”to stay resilient.
Although this bug appears to be quite common, players should remain vigilant and monitor their Gym Pokemon as there is a chance that some may not be able to be retrieved. In such situations, it is recommended to wait a few days before taking any action. If the Pokemon still does not return, players can contact Niantic support for assistance and the issue should be resolved promptly.
