Pokemon Go players creeped out by “hideous” new Ultra Beast

Stakataka has finally arrived in Pokemon Go, but trainers cannot help but feel uneasy at the sight of this enigmatic Ultra Beast, given its bizarre and intimidating appearance.

The Ultra Beasts (UBs) are considered to be the most peculiar additions to the Pokemon franchise, often referred to as ‘aliens’ within the lore. Despite their abnormal appearances, Stakataka, in particular, is causing concern among Pokemon Go enthusiasts.

Since the introduction of the Rock/Steel-type species in 5-Star Raids, Reddit user ‘Lucky-Puzzle1478′ captured this UB and couldn’t resist commenting, “I am a fan of many of the new Pokemon, but this one is incredibly unattractive.”

I stopped playing Pokémon back in 2012(unova region black n white 2 era) and got back into Pokémon in march because of Pokémon go. I love a lot of the new Pokémon but holy 💩 this thing is hideous byu/Lucky-Puzzle1478 inpokemongo

Other trainers could empathize with the OP’s train of thought and joined in mocking Stakataka’s design, deeming it as “a combination of cement bricks and security cameras.”

As some fans commented on its strange appearance, others defended the design by explaining its origin. One person pointed out that, being an Ultra Beast, it was meant to be unconventional. Another stated that Ultra Beasts are from a different universe and are therefore intended to be intimidating and hazardous.

In addition, a fan noticed that this Ultra Beast takes inspiration from Japanese mythology and provided a quote from the Bulbapedia page on Stakataka.

Stakataka’s appearance is reminiscent of a castle tower and it could possibly be inspired by two yōkai creatures. One is Mokumokuren, a species known for inhabiting walls and recognized by its numerous eyes. The other is Nurikabe, a yōkai notorious for disguising itself as a wall and obstructing the path of travelers.

As per the Sun and Moon games, which first introduced Ultra Beasts, it is important to note that these creatures are not actually considered Pokemon. Rather, they are classified as extra-terrestrial beings with abilities and characteristics comparable to those of Pokemon.

Despite its design, Stakataka is still a highly entertaining addition to the Pokedex. Its massive Defense stat of 298 makes it quite a challenge to defeat.

In Pokemon Go, it is important to utilize Fighting and Ground-type counters to take advantage of its two weaknesses. Additionally, it should be noted that Stakataka Raids are exclusive to the Eastern Hemisphere, while Blacephalon can only be found in the Western Hemisphere.
