Pokemon Go players remain unconvinced that the upcoming event for the mobile game is worth the cost of admission, citing the amount of effort needed to fully experience its rewards as a major deterrent.
According to Niantic’s announcement on the first part of PokeCoin Bounty, tickets will be for sale starting September 1 at a price of $4.99 and will come with various bonuses.
Apart from the timed research which grants 200 PokeCoins, XP, and Stardust upon completion, the main attraction is the opportunity to complete special Field Research every day, which rewards an extra 20 PokeCoins upon completion.
The list of ticket bonuses in its entirety is as follows:
- Daily bonus Field Research task that awards 20 bonus PokéCoins* **
- 3× XP for your first catch of the day
- 3× XP for your first spin of the day
- Open up to 50 Gifts per day
- Collect up to 150 Gifts per day from PokéStops and Gyms
- Hold up to 40 Gifts at a time in your Item Bag
Upon Niantic’s announcement on Reddit, players expressed their disappointment that the total PokeCoins reward, although higher than the in-game store price, did not seem worth the time and effort needed to complete both the Timed Research and daily tasks.

One response stated that the coin reward is relatively low compared to the extra hassle of Field Research micromanagement.
Some people compared the event to a job instead of being a free addition to the gameplay experience. They expressed frustration that the event would only earn them 600 PokeCoins over the course of a month, which is equivalent to just six euros in the Eurozone. This amount can easily be purchased instantly from the shop, making the event seem unfair.
After analyzing the numbers, one person stated that reducing the daily PokeCoin payout from 25 to 20 in a previous version of the limited-time offer significantly decreased its desirability.
“Initially, we offer 950 coins for $5 with additional steps. However, the current offer is 800 coins for $5 with the same extra steps. In general, the standard rate is 550 coins for $5 without any additional steps.”
Additionally, the introduction of buffs for Gifts was positively received, causing many to question why these enhancements were not highlighted more prominently.
The PokeCoin Bounty will take place during the Dynamax-themed season of Pokemon Go, known as Max Out, from September 3 to October 2.
