Pokémon Go players are criticizing Niantic for a challenge that involves sending a player to scan a children’s playground.
Most daily tasks in Pokémon Go are easy to complete because they involve doing things you would do anyway, like capturing Pokémon or using berries. If the daily task is painful to complete, you can always delete it and try again by spinning PokéStops to get new tasks.
One of the less common tasks involves visiting a real location and scanning it. This has its problems, as it could potentially send the player into a dangerous area or somewhere inappropriate for young fans to visit.
A fan faces a particularly harsh penalty if they complete their assigned task, as the attempt could get them arrested.
A Pokémon Go player was asked to scan a children’s playground
A user on the Pokémon Go Reddit has shared the latest daily task he was given, which involves scanning a children’s play area. Taking photos of such a location could easily land the player in trouble with the law, as other users in the thread pointed out.
I’m pushing 30, Niantic, I’m not scanning a kid’s playground for you. byu/Sklarlight inpokemongo
“Do it in broad daylight, lots of kids. Walking in circles with your phone out,” one user joked, “I heard that if you can convince the cops that you’re not guilty of anything, Niantic sends you a shiny Keunotor.”
“In my area, some of the only remaining stops I haven’t tagged are at the Little League field,” another user said, “and even though I’m a very sweet looking lady with no bad intentions, I’m not going to try to enter just to clear a few new PokéStops.”
“I know! Why do scans have to be playgrounds?” lamented one user, “This happened to me recently. Finally I was able to scan the playground without looking like an absolute weirdo because my friend invited me to the park with her 3 year old son lol.”
Some users pointed out that it’s possible to just scan the floor to complete the task, while others suggested leaving it unfinished, as you’ll never be asked to do another one while it’s on the task. list.
Strangely, Pokémon Go doesn’t have safeguard protocols to prevent such situations, especially with such a large adult fan base. Players should report these tasks and try to force Niantic’s hand, to ensure that schools and playgrounds cannot be used as PokéStops.
