Pokemon Go players express frustration over Remote Raid Pass nerf

After over a year since the notorious Remote Raid Pass nerf in Pokemon Go, Niantic has expressed their support for the widely debated decision. However, players hold a different perspective on the matter.

The Pokemon Go community was left with a negative reaction after the Remote Raid Pass was nerfed in April 2023. Now, Niantic’s support for this decision has sparked an uproar among players.

According to Pokemon Go Director Michael Steranka in an interview with Dot Esports, the decision to restrict the use of Remote Raid Passes has been met with criticism. However, Steranka stands by the decision, stating that their priority is to encourage players to go out and play in a community setting.

However, fans were swift to challenge these claims in a post on The Silph Road subreddit. One user stated, “I have certainly decreased my spending on the game since the alteration. I rarely participate in raids now, unless it is necessary for completing my Pokedex.”

Several players also shared this sentiment, expressing their belief that there has been a significant decline in player involvement since the nerf. They argued that Niantic’s monthly revenue has reached an all-time low as a result.

Even though Niantic denied these claims, many still believed that few players gathered for events or Raids. Some even doubted whether the change had truly revitalized any in-person communities.

Another person chimed in, stating that nobody actively chooses to play together. The closest they come to playing together is when the weather is bad and a few of them end up at the mall on Community Day.

Several additional players chimed in to emphasize that they have not been participating in in-person Raids and instead have been finding enjoyment in other aspects of the game, such as the Go Battle League. The recent changes have also caused some to quit playing Pokemon Go, although a few mentioned that they are still holding onto it out of nostalgia.

Despite some vocal members of the community disagreeing with the change, Steranka stated that it was exactly what they had been hoping for.
