Pokémon Go players are convinced that the developers never played the game, given the problems that continue to hamper experience.
Since its original launch in the summer of 2016, Pokémon Go has captured the imagination of millions of players around the world.
The game’s popularity has spawned in-person events, tons of in-game activities, and it regularly gives players a reason to explore the world around them. However, not everything related to Pokémon Go is perfect.
Recently, users have disliked the challenges and rewards of Pokémon Go Studies. Players continue to express interest in seeing certain systems such as Gifts overhauled, too. As the issues persist, some longtime fans can’t help but wonder how often the development team plays the game they support.
Players don’t think Pokémon Go developers actually play their game
A popular post on Reddit begins: “Pokémon Go is cool but it really feels like the developers never played it.” The user who started the thread, Affectionate_Star636, said this thought stems from “how the game works, costs, rewards, etc. [who seem] so unbalanced…”

They added that if developers spent a few days with Pokémon Go, they would realize that “getting a Meowth for walking 1000m on Routes isn’t it.”
Several users responded to the thread saying they agreed with the original poster’s assumption about Pokémon Go developers at Niantic. A popular response argued that there is some truth to this assessment, pointing out that Niantic primarily recruits from the tech world.
“They tend to hire from the tech world rather than gaming, so their approach to iteration is very tech-focused. The company exists to be a mapping and AR development platform and to get people walking outside, not to make big games.” Apparently, this explains features like Multiplayer AR Photos and Routes, as it demonstrates to investors a focus on “promoting the adoption of AR…”
Other Reddit users echoed the sentiment that Niantic is not a gaming-centric company. However, one player has thrown a wrench into the mix, claiming that their “pessimistic interpretation”of Pokémon Go’s relationship with its community is simply “a sick social/psychological experiment to see how long people stay in an abusive relationship.”. ”
Clearly, Pokémon fans have very strong feelings about Niantic’s competence as a video game studio.
