Pokémon Go Players Recount the Darkest PokéStops

Pokémon Go trainers have started comparing the “darkest” PokéStop locations they come across in the wild.

One of the most common things Pokémon Go fans encounter while playing outdoors is PokéStops, which are in-game signs that offer useful features.

Each PokéStop is marked by a certain type of real-world location, of which players read a brief description. When traveling to places like museums, historical sites, or memorials, sometimes these PokéStops can be a little morbid.

Now, members of the Pokémon Go community have started sharing some of the “darkest”PokéStops they’ve come across in the wild.

Pokémon Go Fans Share Their “Darkest” PokéStop Finds

A post on the Pokémon Go subreddit asked the community a simple question: “What’s the darkest PokéStop/gift you’ve seen?”

The original poster provided his own submission which featured a giveaway with the PokéStop simply called “Electric Chair” from Mansfield, Ohio. The gift came with a sticker depicting Pikachu giving a thumbs up.

This sparked a discussion among fans who shared equally morbid PokéStops they came across in the wild.

Many players praised the dark humor of the trainer who sent the gift. “And a nice sticker to go with it. I really like this gift,” said one Reddit user, while another said: “Pikachu is the executioner.”

Another player said: “We have one just labeled ‘urban decay’ and it’s nothing but a picture of graffiti and trash.”

A different fan said: “I regularly get one from England called ‘Church Bombed’.”

While many of these morbid PokéStops are based around real monuments or memorials with a lot of real history behind them, others are likely just dark fan submissions that slipped through the cracks.

Although Pokémon is usually an entertainment-focused franchise, the real-world connection behind Pokémon Go can really derail mobile gaming at times — intentionally or not.
