Pokémon Go fans have sparked a community debate after some players said the game is “more fun” between events.
As a live service game, Pokémon Go is constantly receiving new content in the form of events, such as the Big Surprises event which will begin in April 2024.
However, some fans of the mobile game sparked a debate in the community after a trainer made a post on the subreddit TheSilphRoad, arguing that the game is “more fun”between events rather than during them.
Between events, Pokémon Go reveals its true potential according to some players
The original post explains, “Pokémon Go was more fun between events than during most events,” while justifying that much of this argument was about the diversity of Pokémon appearances.

“When there are no events, I have had some extremely diverse and fun appearances,” says the trainer. “…Stardust was increased during Weather Week and while it provided an incentive to capture, the Pokémon that were out weren’t interesting at all.”
Many players agree that the diversity in Pokémon appearances simply makes the game more interesting to play. “I’ve been saying for years now that event appearances shouldn’t be the only appearances,” opines one fan.
Another explains, “Spawn diversity is a big point of contention for me with this game. It would be so much better to have diverse spawns regularly, but that only happens every once in a while.”
However, others countered and offered positive aspects of the constant event appearances. “I personally prefer event periods because I can focus on a single set of goals that the event offers rather than hoping that something I want appears,” .
While members of the Pokémon Go community are certainly divided on the issue, it seems that one thing is clear: a little more balance in the diversity of appearances during events would be very beneficial to the player base.
