Niantic removes Pokémon Go Battle Week One-Time Research ticket

The fact that the four-day event was no longer monetized was seen as a shock to many fans, especially as some players were upset by the increase in Studies paid one-offs, as indicated in a post by Joe Merrick of Serebii. The announcement was so surprising that fans had to ask Niantic if they were okay.

“Trainers, unfortunately the paid One-Time Research will no longer be available for purchase in the store during GO Battle Week: Journeys Through Time. We have updated the blog post to reflect this change, thank you for your understanding.”

Many players have expressed relief at not being forced to purchase more tickets for one-off Research missions, especially since these tickets disappear as soon as the event ends.

This means that players who do not complete the paid One-Time Research tasks before the end of the event and obtain the bonuses cannot get their money back or get their rewards. Leaving some with busy lives unable to collect paid items and extras if they cannot complete tasks on time.

A Pokémon Go player shares his relief at the lack of a One-Time Research ticket, saying “wait, one less paid ticket for the month? It’s more of a victory.”

Another contrasted the divergent perspectives, adding “Niantic: “Unfortunately, we are losing money on this. Spot Study Players: One less ticket to pay.”

“So how will the new avatar pose be sold now!?” another mobile gamer said, echoing community anger that more and more money is being extracted from Pokémon Go’s player base.

Other fans took the opportunity to beg the company, known for banning players for “hilarious” mistakes: “Please unblock me,” they said.

The event marks another episode in a long line of poor communications and errors on Niantic’s part. Some of these errors caused Pokémon Go players to feel like they were being “ripped off.”
