RecentIntroduction32 noted that he felt the sole purpose of the Catching Cup was to “waste Stardust” and questioned why he should “waste it on building Pokémon I already have built, or that I will never use again,” before declaring that a large number of people would probably ignore this week.
A few Pokémon Go players in the thread agreed, with one person noting that “if I thought I could put together a viable team, I might try, but I hate it.”
However, some players disagreed with this opinion, arguing that it levels the playing field for fans who have not been in the game for long. Additionally, one person pointed out that they had almost 6 million Stardust and “didn’t mind spending half a million to get ahead.”
The Catching Cup can be divisive within the community, but one of the best parts is that it allows people to experiment with new monsters, even if it consumes a lot of resources.
