Pokemon Go Weavile: Best Moveset for PvP and Raids

When it comes to the mainline games, Weavile is known for its utility and power. But how does this Pokemon fare in Pokemon Go? In order to win battles with this Dark/Ice type, here is the recommended moveset for Weavile in both PvP and Raid battles.

In November 2018, during the Hatchathon event, Weavile was introduced to Pokemon Go. It has since remained one of the top Ice-type Pokemon, a distinction it continues to hold today.

Despite the addition of new moves, Weavile has only grown in strength, solidifying its position as a powerful option in Pokemon Go’s meta in 2024.

In order to fully maximize Weavile’s potential, it is important to utilize its best possible moveset. Below is the recommended moveset, along with an evaluation of Weavile’s effectiveness in both PvP and Raids.

In Pokemon Go, Weavile has the ability to acquire a total of eight moves. These consist of three Fast Moves and five Charged Moves, with two being unique to its Shadow and Purified variations.

Weavile Fast Moves

  • Feint Attack (Dark/STAB)
  • Ice Shard (Ice/STAB)
  • Snarl (Dark/STAB)

Weavile Charged Moves

  • Avalanche (Ice/STAB)
  • Focus Blast (Fighting)
  • Foul Play (Dark/STAB)
  • Frustration (Normal/Shadow Pokemon)
  • Return (Normal/Purified Pokemon)
  • Triple Axel (Ice/STAB)

Pokemon Go Weavile Best PvP Moveset

The most effective moveset for Weavile in PvP consists of using Snarl as its fast move, along with Foul Play and Avalanche as its Charged Moves.

Snarl is considered the most effective fast move due to its high energy generation in Pokemon Go. This allows Weavile to continuously use Charged Moves and increase its overall damage output. Additionally, Snarl is a STAB attack, providing a 25% damage boost as an added bonus.

Despite being STAB-boosted, Foul Play and Avalanche are both great choices due to their high damage output. While Triple Axel was introduced to Weavile’s movepool in September 2023, it is inferior to Avalanche in terms of strength.

By utilizing this optimal moveset, Weavile gains the ability to effectively counter several prevalent types, including Dragon, Flying, Grass, Ghost, Ground, and Psychic. This allows Weavile to excel as a glass cannon in PvP battles. Nonetheless, its susceptibility to Fighting attacks and general vulnerability hinder its potential as a top-tier choice in any competitive tier.

Weavile Raid Moveset in Pokemon Go

To effectively participate in Raid battles, it is recommended to have Weavile equipped with Snarl as its Fast Move and Foul Play as its Charged Move.

With its optimal moveset and impressive 243 Attack stat, Weavile excels as a Dark-type Attacker in Raids. This is especially evident with a Shadow Weavile, which has a higher DPS output than legendary Dark-types such as Darkrai, Yveltal, and Zarude.

If an Ice-type Attacker is preferred, a Weavile with Ice Shard and Avalanche is also a viable option. It is capable of holding its own against formidable opponents such as Shadow Articuno, Shadow Regice, and Glaceon, but falls short compared to the strength of Shadow Mamoswine and Kyurem, which are currently the strongest Ice types in Pokemon Go.
