Pokemon Go’s Kanto Region: A Persistent Problem for Players

Pokemon Go players have expressed their frustrations with the game’s abundance of Kanto-native species and have indicated a need for a change.

According to one user on Reddit, the cause of the issue is Niantic’s Biome update that was released in Spring 2024. They are tired of only seeing Gen 1 Pokémon and believe that the update is to blame.

The complaint was registered about how the introduction of Biomes has made it much more difficult to hunt for specific Pokemon that one desires.

The author of the thread argued that spawn pools are currently divided equally between “50% event Pokemon and 50% Biome/Kanto Pokemon.”They also noted that the scarcity of XL Candy and certain species are affected by the way Biomes operate.

“This results in a scenario where players may lack motivation to take part in an event,”they further stated, ultimately urging Niantic to “significantly adjust the balance between Event Pokemon and biome spawns.”

The sentiment was reflected in the comments, as one person expressed their desire for more diversity in the Biome spawns, stating “I am tired of constantly encountering the same dozen Kanto Pokémon.”

“Another person echoed the sentiment that they were tired of seeing Kanto Pokemon and urged Niantic to make a change in the upcoming season.”

Some individuals expressed their confusion over the abundance of Kanto spawns, stating that a wider range of spawns from various generations would resolve most issues and be beneficial for both veteran and novice players.

Instead of completely eliminating the functionality of Biomes, many were satisfied with making adjustments to the spawn rates. Some even proposed a solution in the form of “specialized incenses”.

It is yet to be determined if the complaints will lead to any modifications in the Biome system of Pokemon Go, but it is not the sole issue at hand.

The Adventure Week event in August received criticism from fans for not featuring enough wild Fossil spawns and for making popular Pokedex entries only accessible through Research, Raids, and Eggs. As a result, some accused the game of becoming “pay-to-play”.
