Pokémon Go’s new backgrounds create strange glitches

New backgrounds in Pokémon Go are causing issues with the capture circle for some players, making it difficult to know when to throw a Poké Ball.

The capture circle in Pokémon Go is a major aspect of gameplay, as it indicates the effectiveness of your throw when capturing a wild Pokémon. The better the throw, the more likely you are to capture the Pokémon.

Fortunately, the capture circle has rarely been changed throughout Pokémon Go’s history. This is in stark contrast to the rest of the game, which has received numerous changes and updates, resulting in bugs that need to be addressed in the future updates.

Unfortunately, issues with the rest of the game can affect the capture circle, making it more difficult for players to throw the Poké Ball when encountering Pokémon in the wild.

New Pokémon Go backgrounds are causing bugs

A user on Reddit from The Silph Road from New Zealand created a thread to report a bug they encountered with the new capture backgrounds in the game. There is an issue where the capture circle is cut in half, showing only the bottom part of the animation, making it harder to judge when to cast.

“It’s a mess. I’m experiencing slowdowns every time I enter the capture screen. Hopefully they fix it,” one user wrote, while another said, “I’m surprised backgrounds cause performance issues like that. As a 3D modeler, nothing about them seems particularly complex. But then again, Niantic is not known for optimization.”

One user joked, “Niantic: “To get the feature where you can get the full circle experience, please purchase a $4.99 ticket. You get a total of 500 full capture circles.”

“Any chance to turn off the background?” wrote another user, “I can’t capture anymore due to lag. Two weeks ago it was the same but one day the background disappeared.”

It’s not clear why the background is causing the issue, but it appears to be limited in scope at the moment. Once the background rolls out to more regions in Pokémon Go, we’ll have a better idea of how widespread it will be. Hopefully the problem will be resolved before then.
