Pokémon Go’s overall challenge completely confuses players

Niantic took Pokémon Go ‘s Time Travel season literally with a frustrating Global Challenge timer.

Pokémon Go’s Time Travel season is packed with exciting features during its three months of activity. With new Pokémon, One-Time Research, Community Days, Global Challenges, and more – it’ll be hard to have nothing to do in Pokémon Go.

However, even though there is a lot to do, that doesn’t mean there isn’t urgency around the tasks. After all, some will expire soon, which means you’ll miss out on their rewards. In fact, one task seems to take the Time Travel theme a little too literally, with fans not too sure when it even expires.

Pokémon Go players are perplexed by Time Travel’s annoying timer

Sharing an image of a Global Challenge on Reddit, a Pokémon Go player asked: “Why didn’t they just say 7 days?” In the image, it reveals that the community had 10,337 minutes to complete the challenge, which is roughly just over seven days.

Naturally, fans were extremely confused by this convoluted way of saying seven days, with many wondering why Niantic expressed it in minutes.

“Good question,” one user commented, suggesting it was “maybe a simpler countdown timer? I was annoyed when I had to calculate it.” It would make sense for the minutes to make the countdown timer easier as the challenge nears the end, but at this point it just seems complicated and overly complex.

However, while some offered reasoning, others criticized Niantic for their choice, saying the idea was a “common phishing tactic”done to instill a “sense of urgency”in players so that they work harder to complete it.

Others pointed out another reason why Niantic may have put together this interesting timeline: “My hypothesis is to play on the theme of Time Travel.”

Whether it’s to promote urgency or to better fit in with the Time Travel theme, it’s clear that the Pokémon Go community is just confused and looking for an easier way to monitor their challenges.
