Pokemon Go’s Team Rocket Event Skips Eagerly Awaited Dragon-Type Legendary

Pokemon Go has revealed the specifics of the Team Rocket event, Taken Over, for the Shared Skies Season. However, players were surprised by Giovanni’s Shadow Legendary choice as they had anticipated the powerful Rayquaza to be on his team.

Instead, the nefarious leader of Team Rocket will possess the powerful Psychic-type Pokemon, Cresselia. Although this Legendary creature excels in the Great and Ultra League, the Dragon/Flying-type Rayquaza remains one of the most formidable attackers in the current meta.

The community was vocal about their disappointment in the comments of a Reddit post made by ‘Entire_Pineapple4732.’ They questioned the decision to exclude Rayquaza, especially since previous events had featured Giovanni with Kyogre and Groudon.

As part of the Legendary Weather Trio in the Hoenn region, Rayquaza was the clear choice for Gioivanni’s team this season alongside Kyogre and Groudon. The three species were featured consecutively, solidifying Rayquaza’s position as a powerful Dragon-type powerhouse.

Despite some players’ complaints that Niantic withheld the Legendary Shadow Rayquaza as a “cash cow,”many were eagerly anticipating its release due to its reputation as the best PvE Pokemon with its exceptionally high damage output. This caused some speculation about the motives behind the delay, with some players accusing the developers of “trolling”fans.

While some trainers believed that the August 3, 2024 release of Mega Rayquaza Raids justified ignoring Rayquaza in order to avoid an excessive focus on the Pokemon, the majority of players disagreed.

A user clarified that Rayquaza is a highly favored Pokemon among the playerbase and the Pokemon fanbase in general, compared to Cresselia. Additionally, the usefulness of Shadow Ray in PvE, although not as great as Mega Ray, makes it more desirable than Cresselia in PvP. This ultimately leads to feelings of disappointment.

In the interim, if you are searching for other reliable Dragon types in Pokemon Go, here’s a guide on obtaining Pseudo Legendaries such as Salamence, Hydreigon, and Garchomp.
